You may be surprised to know that Torbay Carnival has been running, in many guises, for over 100 years!

- The Carnival Committee consists of a handful of dedicated local volunteers who bring in diverse skills such as electrical knowledge, first aid, marketing, project management, business skills, design, secretarial and photography. All of the Committee balance full-time jobs and families alongside this event which basically takes 12 months to put into place.
- Torbay has a long history of organising a Carnival procession and it is a fond part of many people's childhood memories. But Torbay Carnival today is a lot more than just a Carnival procession - although we continue to be proud of it's ongoing popularity and the enjoyment for everyone who takes part - Carnival is now a 9 day event offering entertainment from 10am and most evenings for over a week each year.
- So you may ask - how do we do it? Well, to be honest the Committee are a little crazy - they do have an emotional connection to Carnival and work endlessly to make the week a success. We also have to thank the many local companies who sponsor our events and our supporters who donate their time or gift their products. As mentioned before, we are not funded by the Council so without our supporters - there would be no Carnival.

- Think this sounds fascinating? Keen to get involved? Well we won't pretend it's not hard work but as a volunteer we know you will also have lots of laughs. There is something for everyone to help with - from the important roles of helping with the Carnival tea-tent, helping with the official float, organising and helping events and performers be in the right place at the right time (and with everything they need), promoting events, raffle ticket sales or why not get a group of you together and volunteer for the very important role of Marshalling. We need marshalls for our music, procession and fireworks events. You shouldn't miss all the fun as you are right in the middle of it!
