Torbay Town Crier Competition 2008
Torbay Carnival will be from 27th July to 3rd August on Paignton Green.
About Our Torbay Town Crier and Competition
After some 20 years, the role of Torbay Town Crier was re-instated last year, when Roov Andrew was appointed. His first year, which started with the first, and very successful, Torbay National Town Crier Competition, has been a busy one and he is now looking forward to hosting the second Torbay National Town Crier Competition, along with his Escort, Jan, and supported by Ken Purchase, Town Crier for Newton Abbot.
Included within the Competition this year is the final round of the Armada Cup. There are some 15 competitors from across the country, who are all members of the Ancient & Honourable Guild of Town Criers; they will do two cries each, one in the morning (the points of which will also count for the Armada Cup), the other in the afternoon.
As stated, Roov has been Torbay’s Official Town Crier for over a year and has attended many official functions and Charity events. He has also represented Torbay in several competitions and has recently won “Best Dressed Town Crier in Devon”. He can be seen in his magnificent regalia on Paignton Green during Carnival Week.
Subject to availability, he will be pleased to attend and 'cry' at any event in the Bay. For further information, please contact the Torbay Carnival Committee on 07709 092250.
